Ana García Reyes is the Dean of Community Relations at Eugenio María de Hostos Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY). She has a broad portfolio supportive of the college’s mission. In this position she is responsible for planning, developing and directing different phases of the college’s community relations operation. Dean García Reyes serves as the College’s spokesperson of community affairs. She supports legislative activities and advocacy efforts on behalf of the college. As the community relations liaison for the college, and a member of the CUNY External Relations Council, Dean García Reyes maintains professional ties with external institutions, policy makers and professional organizations. In addition, García Reyes develops and maintains a broad range of national and local networks, focused on community relations. She is also a member of the President’s Cabinet, Extended Cabinet, and the College’s strategic planning among other academic committees. Moreover, Dean García Reyes coordinates cultural heritage events, educational conferences, seminars, academic exchanges, and professional development / study abroad programs for teachers and students. She has received numerous national and international awards for her civic engagement and service to the community. Dean García Reyes has been involved in public service for close to 4 decades, and has over 37 years of experience in student and community affairs. She also has extensive work in program management and special programs. García Reyes has co-authored various publications, and has been featured in many media outlets. She also serves on different boards and is co-founder of more than 5 professional organizations.

She was born in the Dominican Republic, and raised in New York City. Ana I. García Reyes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the City College of the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1979, and her Master of Science degree in Bilingual Education from the same institution in 1989. Dean García Reyes has received extensive training in multiculturalism, and bilingualism. She is the daughter of a Puerto Rican woman, and a Dominican Cibaeño. She has a daughter, and is the first of her 4 siblings who graduated from college. She enjoys mentoring students, and engaging in community service. She believes that being humane to those that are less fortunate than you is crucial for the survival of any society. She also believes that educating yourself and others elevates opportunities for all. As such she has dedicated a significant amount of time to community service, and has mentored numerous students who have become successful role models.
