If You're Infected (or Could Be Infected) with COVID-19

If you think you may have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19, you can get tested for COVID-19 your doctor’s office, a NYC Health + Hospitals location or another site.

Our COVID-19 testing site is for checking people who wish to enter a CUNY campus but aren't fully vaccinated. It should not be used for diagnostic testing to check if you're infected.

If the College is notified that you have tested positive for COVID-19, the Campus Liaison or their designee (e.g., Nurse Vasquez, another staff member) will contact you directly, following CUNY protocol. This includes self-reporting and positive results through CUNY's COVID-19 testing program. You will not be permitted back on campus without clearance from campus personnel.

If you're at home/off campus

Do not come to campus—even to use our testing site—if you can answer "yes" to any of the following questions:

Answering "yes" to these questions means you’re at higher risk for spreading COVID-19, so please contact Nurse Maria Vasquez as soon as possible by email or phone (718-518-6542) and wait for more information from her.

You should remain home except to seek medical care. Medical care includes getting tested for COVID-19 at your doctor’s office, a NYC Health + Hospitals location or another site. Make sure you follow any directions from Nurse Vasquez on when to get tested.

You can return to campus once you are recovered and Nurse Vasquez has confirmed you have medical clearance to return.

If you're on campus

If you begin to feel sick with COVID-19 symptoms on campus, stay where you are and call Public Safety at extension 6888. Key college personnel have the tools to place you in isolation wherever you are and further evaluate you.

COVID-19 Testing and Antibody Testing

If you think you may have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19, you can get tested for COVID-19 your doctor’s office, a NYC Health + Hospitals location or another site.

Our COVID-19 testing site is for checking people who wish to enter a CUNY campus but aren't fully vaccinated. It should not be used for diagnostic testing to check if you're infected.

Priority testing for COVID-19

Priority testing for COVID-19 is available at NYC Health + Hospitals locations for CUNY faculty, staff or students who: currently reside in a CUNY dorm; or regularly work on a CUNY campus; or attend or teach in-person or hybrid classes including those at clinical sites off-campus.

The priority testing site closest to the college is at Lincoln Hospital (234 East 149th Street). Testing is given on a walk-in basis.

  • Make sure to have your Hostos ID card with you.
  • We recommend that staff, faculty, and students working or learning in person request a letter from Nurse Vasquez
  • Testing is free with or without health insurance. (However, if you have health insurance, it's suggested that you bring your insurance card.)

If you have questions about priority testing, you can contact Nurse Maria Vasquez by email or phone (718-518-6542).

General COVID-19 and antibody testing

If you're not eligible for CUNY’s priority COVID-19 testing or if you need to get an antibody test, you have several options:
  • NYC Health + Hospitals locations offer free, walk-in testing through the NYC Test & Trace Corps. Testing is available to New Yorkers regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status. Testing is given on a walk-in basis (no appointment required).
    • The closest Health + Hospitals testing location is at Lincoln Hospital (234 East 149th Street).
    • Visit their COVID-19 Testing Sites page to find another NYC Test & Trace Corps location in the five boroughs, or call their COVID Hotline at 1-212-COVID19 (1-212-268-4319).
  • See the NYC.gov COVID-19 Testing Page to find COVID-19 testing and antibody testing information. This page includes the Castlight COVID-19 Test Site Finder for testing locations outside of New York City. (Note that some sites listed through Castlight may charge for testing.)

Tracking Campus COVID-19 Infections

The Coronavirus Campus Liaison is responsible for submitting regular COVID-19 reports to CUNY Central Office.

Information is published weekly on CUNY's Coronavirus page through the CUNY COVID-19 Safety Tracker. Safety metrics are updated weekly every Monday and testing is evaluated over a one-week period from Monday to Sunday.

Getting Exposure Alerts through the COVID Alert NY App

COVID Alert NY is an app launched by New York State to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We encourage our college community to install and use this app, which can alert you if you’ve been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

Knowing you may have been exposed to COVID-19 will help you self-quarantine right away and get tested earlier, reducing the risk of illness for your family, friends, communities, and others.

This free app uses a feature developed by Apple and Google for their smartphones. The app uses a phone’s Bluetooth signal and does not track location data or share personal information. The technology is designed to protect privacy while improving contact tracing.

The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Anyone who lives, works, or attends college in New York or New Jersey can use it, as long as they're at least 18 years old. It’s available in several languages.

Learn more about the app on New York State's COVID-19 website.
